The Ministry of Education recently announced the winners of its 9th Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences). Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management was recognized with three second prizes for its outstanding publications: the book Holistic Innovation: An Exploration of Innovation Paradigms in the New Era, by Professor CHEN Jin from the Department of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Strategy; the article "Media Coverage of Climate Change and Sustainable Product Consumption: Evidence from the Hybrid Vehicle Market," co-authored by Professor CHEN Yubo from the Department of Marketing; and the article "A Model of Customer Reward Programs with Finite Expense Terms," co-authored by Professor SUN Yacheng from the Department of Marketing and his collaborators. It also won third prize for "An Empirical Study of Free Product Sampling and Rating Bias," an article co-authored by LIN Zhijie, a tenure-tracked Associate Professor from the Department of Management Science and Engineering and his collaborators.

The research award is the most credible and influential in China's humanities and social sciences field. It aims to recognize and reward outstanding achievements by university researchers, highlight major theoretical and practical contributions that advance the development of the Party and the country, and foster the development a uniquely Chinese system of social sciences in higher education. Established in 1995, the award is presented every three to four years and has completed nine successful selection cycles to date.

Holistic Innovation: An Exploration of Innovation Paradigms in the New Era (monograph) by CHEN Jin

The book is an original Chinese theoretical work that explores new paradigms of technological innovation in the context of China's current development stage. Centered on the mission of establishing China as a global leader in technological innovation, the book traces the evolution of innovation paradigms at home and abroad as observed by the global academic community, and establishes a dialogue between Eastern and Western innovation theories. It introduces the concept of "holistic innovation," which emphasizes strategically guided open, collaborative, and comprehensive approaches to effectively allocate and leverage resources for innovation.

This theoretical paradigm positions "strategic guidance" as the overarching principle, emphasizing multidimensional thinking and global perspectives. Within this framework, "strategy" sets the direction for innovation activities; "openness" defines the scope for resource acquisition and boundaries for knowledge flow; "collaboration" underpins the analysis of relationships and coordination among participants; "comprehensiveness" addresses the integration of elements, personnel, and spatiotemporal factors in the innovation management process; and "Chinese context" serves as the guiding value system for all innovation activities.

The book systematically examines the theoretical framework, methodology, and best management practices of holistic innovation while also considering its potential theoretical and practical value for global development.
