Dean Qian Yingyi Visits Wal-Mart Headquarters

OnMay 2, 2007, Dean of Tsinghua SEM Prof. Qian Yingyi and Director of Alumni and Development Office Pan Qingzhong visited the headquarters of Wal-Mart inBentonville,Arkansas, theUnited States, where they held talks with President and CEO of Wal-Mart Lee Scott, who is also the member of the Advisory Board of Tsinghua SEM.

During the meeting, Dean Qian Yingyi briefed Mr. Scott the recent development of SEM, SEM faculty, student international exchange program, the English-teaching plan and the China Retail Research Center sponsored by Wal-Mart. Mr. Scott, who has been the member of the Advisory Board of SEM since seven years ago,said he was concerned about the development of Tsinghua SEM, suggesting that Tsinghua SEM should attach importance to helping students foster an international visibility and to be practical. He said the School should provide better platform for students' communications and exchanges since Tsinghua is an internationalized university. Mr. Scott also discussed with Dean Qian over questions on School's future development and structure; Mr. Scott said he was expecting the 8th session of Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board which will take place in October, adding that he was also expecting more communications with faculty and students of Tsinghua SEM.

The "most admired retailer" according to FORTUNE magazine has completed one of the best years in its history: Wal-Mart generated more than $312.4 billion in global revenue in the fiscal year endedJanuary 31, 2006, establishing a new record and an increase of 9.5 percent. The company earned almost $11.2 billion in net income in fiscal 2005.
