Dean Qian Yingyi Attends HBS Centennial Global Business Summit

The Harvard Business School (HBS) Centennial Global Business Summit took place during October 12-14. Dean Qian Yingyi attended the summit and delivered a speech at the panel discussion with the theme of "China in the World Economy".

The Global Business Summit, the culmination of the School's Centennial celebration focused on three themes: leadership, globalization and the future of market economy. Keynote speakers included Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft Corporation, historian Niall Ferguson and economist Lawrence Summers. A number of outstanding Harvard Alumni attended the summit as guest speakers including Jeffrey R. Immelt, CEO of GE; Meg Whitman, former CEO of eBay; James Wolfensohn, former President of the World Bank;James Dimon, Chairman of the Board and CEO of JPMorgan Chase and Richard Wagoner, Jr., Chairman and CEO of GM, etc..

The panel with the theme of "China in the World Economy" was hosted by Bill Kirby, renowned Chinese historian and former Dean of Harvard University Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Panelists have included Richard Wagoner, Jr., Chairman and CEO of GM, Victor K. Fung, Group Chairman of Li and Fung Group of Companies and Marjorie Yang, Chairman and CEO of Esquel Group. In his speech, Dean Qian talked about the Tsinghua SEM's mission that "cultivating the future leaders with China roots, global reach" as well as the efforts the School has made in accordance with its mission, especially the School's progress on internationalization. Later, from the perspective of an economist, Dean Qian analyzed the economic trend in the short run in the context of global financial crisis and the developing trend of Chinese economy in the short and middle term.
