Healthcare Analytics in Rapid Response System

Abstract:The astonishingly high number of preventable death in hospital has prompted the implementation of rapid response team (RRT), to quickly treat declining patients. However, the evidence of the efficacy of RRTs is limited. Collaborative and integrated operations involving all care providers including RRT, considered as rapid response system (RRS), should also be examined. We consider two types of RRSs and develop analytical frameworks to evaluate the performance of the systems. A bottleneck analysis method is introduced for continuous improvement purposes and indicators based on the data collected on the hospital floor are discovered. A case study is presented and some extensions in the current framework are further considered. The models and methods developed in this study will provide a quantitative tool to analyze and improve rapid response operations from a system point of view.
