Studies of the Maritime Logistics
Speaker:Loo Hay LEE, Associate Professor, National University of Singapore
Organizer:Department of Management Science and Engineering
Abstract:In this talk, we will give an overview of the various research works that we have conducted in the area of maritime logistics which include port operations and port competitiveness studies, and ocean liner operation study. In addition, we will also present an innovative port design concept - “Sustainable Innovative Next Generation Advanced Port (SINGA Port)”. In this concept, a novel double storey container terminal which provides multiple access points for quay cranes is proposed. The double storey structure provides additional storage spaces for stacking containers and more road space to ease traffic congestion, thus improving the productivity of transporter and space flexibility for the construction of an integrated logistics center. The “SINGA Port” concept stood out from 56 submissions from 25 countries, and was honoured the US$1 million Grand Prize Winner of Next Generation Container Port Challenge.
