【Abstract】We analyze the impact of social learning on the retailer pricing and consumer information acquisition decisions in a retail supply chain. Consumers can choose to purchase early or wait till they learn friends’ purchasing information. We consider both the case when social learning is exogenous and when it is endogenous. Our results show that when social learning is free, the firm’s profit is a convex function of learning intensity; on the other hand, when social learning has a cost, the firm’s profit increases in learning intensity and decreases in learning cost. We find that "free" social learning is not always beneficial for the firm, consumers and social welfare. This is a joint work with Xiaolu Zuo.
