My name is Joy, and I am an exchange student from the University of Sydney, studying Finance and Business Analytics. I chose to come to Tsinghua SEM because I have always been fascinated by Chinese culture and history, and because China is Australia’s most important trading partner. Studying at Tsinghua, China’s top university and a world-class business school, felt like the perfect way to understand China from the inside.

My first impression of Tsinghua was how beautiful the campus is – biking around felt like exploring a park. SEM impressed me with its strong academic atmosphere, wide course selection, and highly driven students. The learning environment is rigorous, international, and inspiring.

Living in Beijing also allowed me to deeply experience Chinese culture. Visiting historical landmarks such as the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace gave me a greater appreciation for China’s history, while everyday life in Beijing showed me how modern, innovative, and vibrant the city is. This experience completely changed my perspective on China.

Campus life at Tsinghua has been wonderful — convenient facilities, affordable and delicious canteens, and a lively atmosphere around Zijing Field. I also joined the Musicals Club and helped with lighting for their upcoming performance of Tanz der Vampire, which made me feel more connected to campus.

Overall, I would highly recommend Tsinghua SEM to future exchange students. It offers excellent academics, a rich cultural experience, and unforgettable friendships. My exchange here has been incredibly meaningful, and I know I will stay connected to China in the future.
