As chairwoman of Esquel Group, Yang has long championed her philosophy that "industry revitalizes the nation." Under her leadership, Esquel has navigated numerous challenges, responded to global changes, and prioritized corporate social responsibility and sustainable development. Through her vision and commitment, Esquel has evolved into a globally recognized, knowledge-driven innovative enterprise at the forefront of its industry.

During the session, Yang shared her strategy for finding "opportunities amidst crises" from multiple perspectives. Using Esquel's development as an example, she described how the company built trust with local cotton farmers in Xinjiang by employing fair practices such as avoiding promissory notes, conducting cash transactions, and offering public welfare training programs. These efforts not only enhanced the quality of Xinjiang's long-staple cotton but also improved farmers’ income and living standards, establishing a strong foundation for Esquel engagement in the textile and apparel industry. Addressing the challenges Esquel faced in 2020 when one of its Xinjiang subsidiaries was added to the U.S. Department of Commerce's Entity List, Yang affirmed the company's resolve to remain active in the region. "Patriotism and integrity are important qualities my grandfather taught me," she said, "We must not only persist but also find new opportunities in such an environment."

Yang elaborated on Esquel's journey of transformation and innovation. She explained that during a significant downturn in orders, the company seized the opportunity to shift from traditional manufacturing toward developing its own brands and advancing technology research and development. Esquel successfully launched two retail brands, PYE and DETERMINANT, and collaborated with renowned intellectual properties to release co-branded apparel. These moves positioned the company at both ends of the "smiling curve," focusing on design and branding alongside technological innovation. Yang highlighted Esquel’s decade-long effort to pioneer "waterless dyeing" technology, a breakthrough that drastically reduces water consumption and addresses persistent environmental issues in the textile industry. Esquel became the first company globally to achieve waterless dyeing for cotton fabrics, setting a new benchmark for the sustainability in the textile sector.

Addressing how companies can adapt to global changes, Yang said that crises bring enormous challenges but also create opportunities for strategic transformation. She emphasized Esquel's collaboration with academic institutions, which has driven advancements in water resource management, wastewater treatment, salt recovery, and natural dyeing. These innovations not only improve production efficiency but also enhance the company's environmental competitiveness.

Esquel Group is also making strides in automation and digital intelligence. By integrating automated and intelligent production and management technologies, the company has reduced worker training times and increased production efficiency. The approach addresses labor shortages while significantly improving overall productivity. Yang stressed that Esquel remains committed to a people-oriented philosophy: while digitalization enhances productivity, the company aims to empower employees rather than replace them. Esquel strives to help its workforce grow professionally, improve their incomes, and enhance job satisfaction.

Yang emphasized of balancing economic goals with corporate social responsibility. She said one of Esquel Group's missions is to narrow the wealth gap by creating high-quality employment opportunities, particularly in remote areas. The company is also committed to advancing the circular economy and minimizing its environmental impact.

During the interactive session that followed, students eagerly posed questions on topics including career development, the company's future direction, and corporate social responsibility. Yang addressed each of question and offered insightful responses.

To commemorate the occasion, Liu Qing, representing the school, presented Yang with a hand-bound account book documenting her participation in Tsinghua University lectures and activities since 2012. The book contained cherished memories, including students' on-site messages, symbolizing their respect and gratitude for her contributions.
