Governor of Massachusetts Willard Mitt Romney talks with SEM students

Willard Mitt Romney, Governor ofMassachusettsvisited Tsinghua SEM on December 8th, delivering a speech to almost 110 students. Professor Gu Binglin, President of Tsinghua University, and Professor Chen Guoqing, Executive Associate Dean of SEM, met with Mr. Romney before the speech.

During his one-hour talk, Mr. Romney spent 20 minutes to share with the audience two advices and the rest by answering questions. His first advice was to follow an approach, from which he benefited both in the business and political field. First step is putting aside conventional wisdom. Second, assemble great people to debate; then get the data and analyze. And at last, develop a strategy or game plan. He also gave a life advice that getting joy and satisfaction from family and helping others.

On the Q&A part, Mr. Romney answered questions from the audience, covering areas including Sino-US relationship, economy policy suggestions to China,USbanking's development inChina,Iraqproblems and the Olympic Games.

Born in 1947, Willard Mitt Romneyis the 70th Governor of Massachusetts. He also serves as the chairman of the Republican Governors Association and honorary chairman of the Commonwealth Political Action Committee. Before becoming Governor, Romney rose to prominence as CEO and organizer of the 2002 Winter Olympics inSalt Lake City.

Romney received his B.A. with Highest Honors and as valedictorian fromBrighamYoungUniversityin 1971. In 1975, Romney was awarded an M.B.A. fromHarvardBusinessSchooland was named a Baker scholar. In 1975 he also received his J.D. cum laude fromHarvardLawSchool.

Romney is a possible candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.
