The 10th International Convention for East Asian Economic Association Successfully Held by Tsinghua SEM

The 10th International Convention for East Asian Economic Association was successfully held from Nov. 18 to 19 in Beijing, at which Tsinghua SEM served as one of the co-organizers. This is the first time for East Asian Economic Association to hold its biannual international convention in mainland China.

Professor Bai Chong-En, Chair of Department of Economics of Tsinghua SEM represented the School to deliver the welcome speech at the opening ceremony. 8 professors from Tsinghua SEM hosted the discussion panels as the panel chairman respectively.

The topic of the convention this year was “the Economic Integration of East Asian Economy”. Over 100 economists from East Asian countries attended the meeting and presented a total number of 87 academic papers in 24 panel discussions.

The East Asian Economic Association (EAEA) was established in 1987 as the first international academic organization to focus on the economic issues of East Asia, comprising Northeast and Southeast Asia. The major activities of the EAEA include publishing a quarterly journal, the Asian Economic Journal, and holding biannual international conventions. The current chairman of EAEA is Professor Lawrence Lau, President of Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor Bai Jung-En, the Chairman of Tsinghua SEM’s Department of Economics is named as the chairman of the organizing committee for the 10th international convention.

Department of Economics, Tsinghua SEM, has organized many important international conferences since its inception, including “Far East Meeting of The Econometric Society” held in July this year.
