International Symposium of Design Science in Management Research Held in Shenzhen

The International Symposium of Design Science in Management Research, jointly hosted bySchoolofEconomicsand Management,TsinghuaUniversity, Faculty of Business of theHong KongPolytechnicUniversity,GraduateSchool at Shenzhen,TsinghuaUniversityandSchool of Management,ZhejiangUniversity, has taken place in Shenzhen during May 24-26 with over 80 scholars participating in the meeting.

The introduction of design science to the management study not only explains the phenomena, but also designs the schedule that solves the problem. It combines the management study with application in practice and has been paid much attention from cutting-edge researchers.Currently, however, the Management Design is just in its beginning stage in international academic community. The two-day international symposium aims at introducing leading scholars and their achievements in the area of design science in management research, exploring how to introduce the way of thinking in design science to the management education which resultingly will enhance the student’s capability to solve problems. The symposium is expected to provide a platform for research cooperation between Chinese, European and American scholars, helping formulate an academic network in design science in management research and jointly promoting the development of design science in management research.

Speakers at the conference included Joan Ernst. VanAken with Eindhoven University of Technology(Netherlands), Andrew Van de Ven with Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota(U.S.), Jean Bartunek with Boston College—Carroll (U.S.),AnneHuffwith Technische Universit?t München(TUM, Germany)and University of Colorado(U.S.), Richard J. Boland withWeatherheadSchoolof Management, CaseWestern Reserve(U.S). All the attendees are renowned scholars and professionals in Design Science in Management Research. Professor Andrew Van de Ven, Prof.Jean Bartunek, and Prof. Anne Huff had been Chair of Academy of Management of theUnited States.

Professors and scholars from the host universities including Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM, Prof. Tong Yunhuan, Associate Dean ofFaculty of Business, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Prof. Howard Davies, Prof. Lin Gongshi with Graduate School at Shenzhen,Tsinghua University, Associate Dean of School of Management, Zhejiang University, Prof. Jia Shenghua participated in the conference.
