2007 Tsinghua Management Global Forum Held

The inaugural 2007 Tsinghua Management Global Forum was held atTsinghuaUniversityonOct. 30, 2007, bringing together more than ten elite business leaders from renowned international companies to discuss the hot issues concerning management. Gu Binlin, President of Tsinghua University and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered a welcome address at the forum. ZHOU Xiaochuan, Governor of People’s Bank of China,H. Lee Scott, Jr., President and CEO of Wal-Mart Stores, John L. Thornton, Professor and Director of the Global Leadership Program, Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM); Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Brookings Institution attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches respectively.

During the three sessions of the forum, panelists exchanged their insights and ideas on topics including “the Development of Financial System in Emerging Market,” “Competitive Strategy in the Context of Globalization”, “Corporate Social Responsibility”. Participants included Stephen A. Schwarzman, Chairman, CEO and Co-Founder of the Blackstone Group; Steven A. Denning, Chairman of General Atlantic, LLC; Maurice R. Greenberg, Chairman and CEO of C. V. STARR & Co., Inc; FANG Xinghai, Director of Shanghai Municipal Office of Finance Service; LI Daokui, Professor of the Department of Finance, Tsinghua SEM; Michael Max McNamara, CEO of Flextronics International; Nobuyuki Idei, Chairman of the Advisory Board, Sony Corporation; Richard Li, Chairman of PCCW Limited; John Roberts, Senior Associate Dean of Graduate School of Business, Stanford University; JIN Zhanming, Professor of the Department of Business Strategy and Policy, Tsinghua SEM; John Bond, Chairman of Vodafone Group Plc; Tony Hayward, Group Chief Executive of BP Plc; Marjorie Yang, Chairman and CEO, Esquel Group; Victor K. Fung, Group Chairman of Li & Fung Group; LIU Shaoyong, Chairman of the Board of China Southern Airlines, and Professor YANG Bin, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM.

Many of the participants of the forum are members of Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board. Set up in October, 2000, the Advisory Board consists of worldwide elite business leaders, visionary government officials and renowned scholars. The Advisory Board has contributed tremendously to the development of the School, especially in its internationalization process of recent years. After the forum, the Advisory Board held its eighth meeting on Oct.31 atTsinghuaUniversity.

The 2007 Tsinghua Management Global Forum was organized bySchoolofEconomicsand Management,TsinghuaUniversity. As the highest-level conference that has ever been held at Tsinghua University, the forum aims at providing government officials, business executives and scholars a platform for closer communications on ideas and insights concerning management issues worldwide. It’s expected to become one of the influential events in international management community.
