Seminar for Private Equity Fund in China Held at Tsinghua SEM

The Private Equity Institute of Tsinghua University has held its first seminar on April 17, 2008. With the theme of “Private Equity Fund in China”, the seminar was co-organized by the Private Equity Institute and the Department of Finance.

The seminar was seen by more than 150 people from industries, government departments and financial media community as well as Tsinghua University. Participants included Professor Liao Li, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM and Executive director of China Center for Financial Research; David Patrick Eich, Partner of Kirkland & Ellis LLP, Chuan Li, Partner of Kirkland & Ellis LLP; Zhou Chuanjie, Partner of Fangda Law Firm; and Joanna Wang, Senior Vice President of Oaktree Capital Management. Associate Professor Li Jinliang from the Department of Finance presided over the discussion.

In his opening address, Professor Liao Li pointed out that the private equity fund will become a very important class of assets in China as the country’s micro-economy and the regulatory environment evolves. The Private Equity Institute is committed to promoting domestic research on private equity by combining forces from both academic and industrial communities. And such a seminar aims to provide a platform for communications for them.

During the seminar, guest speakers from business community talked about the growth and development of private equity fund, the regulation on private equity fund in China and the private equity investor’s opinions on investing in China. The participants from academic community held a discussion in particular on opportunities and challenges for private equity in China.

The organizer says, with a view to promote the dialogue in-between academic community, business community and government departments, the Private Equity Institute will continue to host such seminars, academic workshops and other activities, which enable business professionals to communicate with academicians on topics they concern, meanwhile also provide trends and focuses for theoretical and empirical research in academic community.
