Tsinghua SEM Students Donate Blood for Earthquake Victims

Tsinghua teachers and students queued up to donate blood for the injured in earthquake in Sichuan Province, on May 13, 2008. The donation lasted till 1:00 am on May 14. During the day alone, there were already over 1000 students and staff members from Tsinghua filling in the blood donation list. Among them, 653 people have donated blood of 910 units (200cc for each unit). 26 students from Tsinghua SEM have donated their blood for the quake victims. More other SEM students have got registered as reserve volunteers for blood donation.

On May 12, an earthquake measuring 7.8 Richter scale hits Wenchuan County of SW China's Sichuan Province at 2:28 p.m. It was also felt in parts of Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan, Gansu, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Hebei and Beijing. This is the most damaging earthquake since the 1976 Tangshan disaster. Casualties continue to escalate; Confirmed death toll has exceeded 28,000 by Saturday.

By May 16 pm 5:00, the cash donation from over 30,000 Tsinghua University’s faculty and staff as well as students for quake-affected areas has hit 7.55 million RMB. The cash donation from Tsinghua SEM has risen to 442,905 RMB by 16:00pm of May 16.
