Participants from the three classes (Class D,E,F) of Tsinghua EMBA 2006 have received their degrees this summer after two-year studies at Tsinghua. At the commencement held on July 5, 2008, 192 graduates presented a special gift for their mother university: the Tsinghua EMBA06-DEF Scholarship Program. The scholarship program was launched based on a fund of RMB 500,000 donated by participants from the three EMBA graduating classes, aiming at providing financial assistance to the current poor undergraduates at Tsinghua from quake-hit areas. The scholarship will be managed by Tsinghua University Alumni Association.

Secretary General of Tsinghua University Alumni Association Guo Liang, Deputy Secretary General of the Association Jian Jin, Director of the Development Department of the Association Yu Shui, Dean of Tsinghua SEM Qian Yingyi, and Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM and Deputy Director of Tsinghua EMBA Program Liao Li attended the donating ceremony.

Secretary General of Tsinghua University Alumni Association Guo Liang awarded the certificates of honor to the three donating classes, saying he hoped the students who received assistance would get continuous care in the future.

According to Guo Liang, students at Tsinghua with difficult economic status account for 1/4 of the student body of the University. Since its launching in 2006, the Tsinghua Alumni Scholarship Program has won recognition and praise from the society. "The University will never allow a student with diligence and talents to drop out of the school because of financial difficulties", said Guo Liang.

"During the two-year communications with teachers and classmates here, we are more and more getting clear about the meaning of life, society and responsibility. After the earthquake happened, every participant has given a helping hand to the victims in quake-hit regions in the first time. Still, we agreed to set up a fund special for undergraduate students at Tsinghua with financial difficulties from quake-hit regions after we learned that the University has a scholarship program special for poor students,” said Li Jian, representative of 06EMBA graduates. "All participants of 06 EMBA program hope to convey our love to the juniors through this fund, which could be helpful for them to accomplish their studies at Tsinghua.”
