Professor Bai Chong-en Wins the First Pushan-BOC Award for Outstanding Papers in World Economics

The result of the first Pushan-BOC Award for Outstanding Papers in World Economics has been announced on November 13, 2008. Professor Bai Chong-en, Chair of the Department of Economics of Tsinghua SEM and his post-doctoral student Wang Dehua as well as his doctoral student Zhang Zaijin won the top prize of the award for their paperSize of Government, Rule of Law and the Development of Services Sector.

Two academic papers won the top prize of Pushan-BOC Award this year. They were selected amongst 54 submitted papers through three rounds of voting which took six months by the Executive Council Members of China Society of World Economics, Expert Group of Selection of Pushan-BOC Award, and the Selection Committee of Pushan-BOC Award.

The awarding ceremony was held in Beijing. The Pushan-BOC Award was the top academic award in the field of world economic studies. The Award will be conferred every two years, when five papers at most will be selected out as the outstanding papers. The Pushan-BOC Award was set up in memory of the past renowned economist Professor Pu Shan, aiming to promote the research in world economic issues in Chinese economics community. Ms Chen Xiuyin, wife of Professor Pushan donated RMB 100,000 to launch the award in 2004. In 2007, Bank of China (BOC) obtained the title sponsorship.
