Tsinghua SEM Wins Top Position in Intel+UC Berkeley Technology Entrepreneurship Challenge

The Ihealth team from Tsinghua SEM has won the champion title at Intel+UC Berkeley Technology Entrepreneurship Challenge, which was held at the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business on November 19.

The Ihealth team consists of three post-graduate students WANG Lu, QIE Yan and CHEN Xu from Tsinghua SEM. Associate Professor ZHANG Wei served as the team’s supervising professor.Their competing program is the business planning of biodegradable bone screws, a biotechnology which promises to improve the quality of life for patients with bone injuries.

It's the first time for a Chinese team has ever won the competition. The award includes a $25,000 cash prize. The team Ihealth also won the People’s Choice Award, which was voted on by all attendees at the competition finals.

27 teams selected from 18 countries took part in the semi-final and final competitions. Launched in 2005, the competition was sponsored by Intel Corporation and hosted by the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business to promote the commercialization of technology innovations that promise significant positive impact on industry and society.
