Kirkland & Ellis Partners Speak about Minority PE Investments

On the evening of March 23, 2010, a forum on minority private equity (PE) investments in China was held in Tsinghua SEM. Three keynote speakers all come from Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

The forum is co-organized by Tsinghua University China Center for Financial Research’s Private Equity and Venture Capital Institute and the Career Development Center (CDC). Speakers invited include Partner LI Chuan, Partner Jesse Sheley and Corporate Associate Pierre-Luc Arsenault.

The speakers mainly dealt with minority PE investments from foreign sponsors, covering the concept of macro-economy, the stages and structure of minority investments and a comparison of main domestic and foreign clauses concerning governmental assessment as well as anti-hegemonic evaluation. LI Chuan talked about the features of minority investments in China and its contrast with foreign PE investments, while Jesse Sheley and Pierre-Luc Arsenault explained legal technologies used by sponsors to structure deals in China.

After the speeches, three speakers shared with student representatives about the background knowledge and their personal views concerning the main topic. They also said, to attain an internship in investment banks is a good starting point in the pursuit of a career in PE investment industry.

Kirkland & Ellis LLP are going to give another two speeches regarding private equity and entrepreneurial investment in mid April and May.
