Members of the “Bioclean” team include Zhang Tianyuan and Zhu Shufeng, who are both postgraduate students from the School of Environment, as well as Wu Dazhi, Huang Yijing, Lv Zhe, Xue Yan and Mou Hongshuai from MBAP4-2012, the School of Economics and Management. The case that the team presented at the competition is called “Coupling technique of wastewater reclamation/reuse and biofuel production using microalgae”, a research project led by Professor HU Hongying from the School of Environment. The students from the School of Economics and Management provided a thorough financial and investment analysis for this technology. The core technology of their business case is based on microalgae’s ability to purify household sewage into high-quality reclaimed water and to produce biodiesel and animal feed additives at the same time. The technology allows people to use waste water as the raw material to produce reclaimed water and biofuel. Large scale adoption could lead to significant environmental and economic benefits. This is a very attractive new technology for waste water reclamation and reuse. The team’s presentation was well-received by the judges. It excelled among all participants in the final round and won the “Most Professional” Award.
