The paper starts with the following organizational phenomenon: Many of employees’ creative ideas often do not get recognized by their managers and therefore lose the opportunity to be implemented. For instance, although Kodak’s research lab invented the first digital camera, the lack of recognition by its managers permitted Sony to eventually overtake Kodak as the market leader in the digital photography space. Similarly, whereas Xerox developed a blueprint for the first personal computer, insufficient investment by managers allowed Steve Jobs and Apple to snatch the opportunity away.

It has become the first paper published on AMJ by Tsinghua University. AMJ is the flagship journal of the Academy of Management, and is internationally recognized as a top journal in the management field. The journal is known for its strict academic requirements and its extremely high editorial standards. It is also one of the 24 journals listed in the UT DALLAS directory, an internationally recognized authority journal directory in the economics and management fields.
