The Department of Management Science and Engineering (MSE) was orginally founded in 1979, and later merged into the newly-established School of Economics and Management in 1984. The MSE Department started its graduate program in management engineering in 1979 and under-graduate program in the succeeding year. In 1981, the departement was accredited to grant doctorate degrees in system engineering. In 1985, the post doctoral program in management science and management was set up. In 2001, Management Science and Engineering was ranked as a key doctoral program in a national appraisal of doctoral programs in universities.
The faculty of the MSE Department includes more than twenty full-time professors. Renowned oversea scholars are regularly invited to participate in teaching and research in the department as visiting professors. The faculty's research interest covers a wide range of management scienses, including management information systems, supply chain management, e-commerce, fuzzy information processing, business intelligence, etc. Most of current research projects are funded by the Natural Science Foundation of China, government agencies, and industrial companies.
